A data center (DC for short) is a building site that provides an operating environment for centralized electronic information equipment, including the main engine room, auxiliary area, support area, and administrative management area. As an important part of computing power infrastructure, data centers are data centers and computing power carriers that promote the development of new-generation digital technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, and play an important role in boosting the growth of the digital economy.

According to different nature or service objects, data centers can be divided into Internet Data Centers (IDC) and Enterprise Data Centers (EDC). IDC refers to the use of corresponding computer room facilities to provide placement, agency maintenance, system configuration and management services for users' servers and other Internet or other network-related equipment by means of outsourcing, as well as providing database systems or server equipment rental and storage space. EDC refers to a data center constructed and owned by an enterprise or institution to serve its own business.

According to the size, data centers can be divided into ultra-large, large and small and medium. Ultra-large data center refers to a data center with a scale of more than 10,000 standard racks, a large scale refers to a data center with a scale of 3,000-10,000 standard racks, and a small and medium-sized data center is a data center with a scale of less than 3,000 standard racks. The construction of super-large and large-scale data centers focuses on factors such as climate environment and energy supply; small and medium-sized data centers are mainly constructed in areas close to the user's location and easy to obtain energy, and are flexibly deployed according to market demand.
